About Myself:

Hello there! My name is Colby August and I am an amateur roboticist from Cape Cod MA.

Throughout my college career and internship experiences I have throughly enjoyed to opportunity to work on cross disciplinary systems sparking my interest in robotics.

Now currently I am pursing my masters of science in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduating in May of 2025, I hope to give myself the opportunity to work in an environment which both values creativity and strives to push line of technological process one step further.

Professional Experience:

General Dynamic Mission Systems | Taunton, MA

Systems Engineering Intern | Jun 2024 - Aug 2024

  • Created test equipment allocation tool allowing for users to input a desired test date & outputting all tests occurring on the given date, the location for each test, & needed equipment

  • Drafted & submitted 28 functional & environmental test procedures for government & client review

  • Preformed operational checkouts of equipment units being both sent for & received from environmental testing

Maglev Aero | South Boston, MA

Mechanical & Test Engineering Intern | Aug 2022 - Sept 2023

  • Designed tests stand used for the testing motoring components for novel electric vertical take-off & landing motoring system equipped for real time data processing & collection

  • Developing and programed a multifunctional emergency braking & jacking system requiring positional accuracy of 0.01" & adjustable breaking force which was integrated into a pre-existing test fixture

  • Participated in weekly stand-up meeting & monthly program reviews putting together slide decks & presenting on the behalf of the project team to C-suite members

  • Prototyped & manufactured experimental hardware components including harmonic drive motor blade adjustment system & swappable battery containment unit needed to withstand rotational forces upwards of 100G

Education:

Center for Architectural Science & Ecology | Troy, NY

Research Assistant | May 2022 - Aug 2022

  • Developed electronic schematics & preliminary software architecture for a smart weather chamber dubbed "Frog" used to emulate environmental conditions for bioclimatic architectural testing

  • Consolidated a network of sensors & microcontrollers allowing for real-time readout of chamber conditions ensure desired weather conditions are being consistently replicated
